Joseph Cermatori is an award-winning writer, editor, scholar, and critic based in Saratoga Springs, New York, where he is associate professor of English at Skidmore College. Prior to 2016, he taught in the liberal and interdisciplinary arts divisions at The New School in New York City. His work investigates the philosophical content of artistic and creative forms, with a special emphasis on drama and the arts of performance. He is the author of Baroque Modernity: An Aesthetics of Theater, published by the Johns Hopkins University Press in 2021. His other writings have appeared in PMLA, TDR, Modern Drama, Criticism, The Brooklyn Rail, Village Voice, and New York Times.
